Automation specialist Omron has recently announced it is extending its collaboration with leading CAE software provider EPLAN and, as a result, 5,000 macros related to Omron products are now available via the EPLAN data portal. Panel builders and other users of Omron automation can now download all the essential product data. This saves engineering time and effort during the design stages, reduces errors and helps improve the overall project quality.
Omron currently provides EPLAN macros, including control cabinet components such as PLC’s, I/Os, drives, relays, power supplies, temperature controllers, timers, counters and monitoring products as well as devices for the Sysmac automation platform. And, as a further benefit for users, additional actuator and sensor parts data will be added. Driven by new product development, new parts data will be made available. For customers with special requests, a specific macro can be created.
The Omron parts data not only contain all the essential data for the products, but are also a valuable tool for compiling design documentation. Engineers can select the data they require; so complete documentation is developed rapidly and in parallel to the design process.
In addition to the wide range of data available, users also benefit from the extended features offered by the macros: drawings of individual components, dimensions, product properties, 2D or 3D views so the components can be virtually fitted into the panel. The pre-produced design elements can simply be dragged and dropped into drawings or circuit diagrams and then the program automatically adjusts the data to the format being used by the engineer.
As well as circuit diagram symbols, drilling templates and other manufacturing information, which can also be copied straight to the design program, the software produces a uniform working interface that simplifies both the task at hand and the documentation.
The macros also promise a wide range of opportunities and simplification measures for the future, including supplying the corresponding data for applications, such as automated manufacturing and wiring robots.
Finally, the data flows created via EPLAN are vital for companies working in the context of Industry 4.0 as Lars de Bruin, Marketing Manager Panel Solutions EMEA at Omron explains: "We work together with EPLAN to supply customers with all the information that is important to them, whenever and wherever they require it. Offering customer support on product data is important to us; this means that all questions can be dealt with via the macro itself. This enables users to focus on the design without having to waste time searching for answers."
